The Law of Navigation

The Law of Navigation says that anyone can steer the ship, but it takes a leader to chart the course. In John Maxwell’s book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leaders he provides the acronym below to help put the law into action.

A leader must chart the course and be process oriented – and, PLAN AHEAD.

P = PREDETERMINE a course of action
L = LAYOUT your goals
A = ADJUST your priorities
N = NOTIFY key personnel

A = ALLOW time for acceptance
H = HEAD into action
E = EXPECT problem
A = ALWAYS point to success
D = DAILY review your plan

I go into more detail about the law of navigation in this video:

As a leadership coach, part of what I help leaders do is chart their course, create a plan and hold them accountable to fulfilling it. I serve as a sounding board, a thinking partner and sometimes a consultant.

I admit planning is one of my weaker leadership skills. I am great at helping others craft their own plans, I even used to write emergency management and business continuity plans for a living, but I am not so good at doing it for myself. This is why I use my own coaches to help develop my plans, keep me on track, accountable and stick to what I say I am going to do. What about you? How are you with this law?

The Law of Process

We are on day 3 of the 21 day video challenge. Today’s law is the Law of Process. This 3rd law of the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership says leaders develop daily, not in a day!

Becoming a great leader is an ongoing journey that we can always be improving. Working on yourself as a leader will create growth in all areas of your life, but it doesn’t happen overnight.

We must create a process and stick with it! Just knowing what to do doesn’t cut it, we have to apply what we know through consistent actions.

Some of the ways you can grow your leadership abilities are reading books, listening to podcasts, attending seminars, joining a mastermind group, working with a coach. However, the key to all of these things is to actually implement and apply the things you learn.

Let me know what your leadership growth process looks like? Do you have one?

If you’re interested in how I can help you on your leadership growth journey, I have individual and group coaching options as well as small group retreats that can be customized for you and your team. My next women’s leadership retreat is in Puerto Rico on April 30th – May 2nd, it’s going to be amazing!

The Law of Influence

This is day 2 of the 21 day challenge and my video on The Law of Influence is below. This law basically says that leadership is influence – nothing more, nothing less.

This sounds pretty simple, but it is a lot more difficult to put into practice. Influence is about getting others to know, like and trust you. It is helping them come alongside you to fulfill a common goal.

When you have influence, people want to follow you! Check out the video and let me know how you are developing your influence in the comments.

The Law of the Lid

Hey friends!
I am participating in a 21 day video challenge with a group of fellow women entrepreneurs who are experts in different subject. Since my area of expertise is in leadership, I have decided to share with you the 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell over the next 21 days.

As a certified John Maxwell Team member I have had so much personal and professional growth experiences from studying and teaching these concepts and it has added value to my life in ways I never imagined.

I would like to invite you to pursue your own leadership and personal growth by studying these 21 Laws with us for the next few weeks. You will be surprised at how far you come in a short amount of time!

The first law is the Law of the Lid. This law simply states that the more you raise your leadership lid, the more effective you will become in your business. This applies whether you are a business owner or an employee or an aspiring leader. It also isn’t just for people in business, this concept translates into our personal lives as well. We are leaders in our homes, communities, churches, volunteer organizations, circle of friends.

As you raise your leadership lid, you will raise your influence and you will be able to achieve your definition of success in life. Good leaders are constantly looking to grow themselves and others, so my hope is that this adds value to you on your growth journey.

Thank you for joining me on this 21 day journey and I highly recommend that you buy the book and begin applying the principles in it to your life!

Here is day 1 video with my take on the Law of the Lid:

A Superwoman’s Guide to Rescue Time

Girl looking at watch

The number one thing that women leaders tell me has them stressed out is not having enough time.

Time to work on their businesses, time to work on themselves, time to spend quality time with their loved ones, time for fun.

For many this results in burnout, mommy guilt, poorer quality projects, a constant feeling of being rushed, missing out on fun things with friends or family events and milestones…the list goes on! There is just too much to do, and too little time. I know how you feel and it’s not fun!

But it doesn’t have to be that way. The truth is, I have just as many hours in the day as Oprah and every other successful person I admire. And so do you.

We can create amazing lives if we choose to lead ourselves and others well. Great leaders understand how to leverage the value of their time and the time of others around them. We have choices to make and multiple options for support, but sometimes we need a little help accessing them and taking back control of our time.

Once I realized that I have the power to control my time, I don’t miss out on the important stuff anymore (holidays, weddings, graduations), I have created non-negotiables on my schedule, I have built in time for me, time for the people I love, time for my business, and time for fun.

Ladies, I want you to take back control of your time too! So, I have created a FREE ebook for those of you who would like to find an extra 10-15 hours per week in your schedule to do more of the things you love. A Superwoman’s Guide to Rescue Time: Six Steps to Doing More of What You Love
